In the fall of 2024, Barrington 220 launched its innovative Kindergarten Lab Program, or K-Lab, at Barrington High School (BHS). As the first program of its kind in Illinois, the full-day program offers a one-of-a-kind educational experience for the district’s young learners as well as high school students who plan to work in the field of education. The K-Lab includes two newly renovated kindergarten classes connected by an observation lab, which enables BHS students pursuing the Education College and Career Pathway to observe K-Lab students.
Thanks to its location at BHS, students enrolled in the K-Lab Program can engage in unique experiential learning alongside BHS students throughout the school day. Some of these opportunities include horticulture activities inside the BHS greenhouse, authentic learning experiences inside the new state-of-the-art culinary arts lab, dance and movement workshops with high school dance students, lab experiments with high school chemistry students, and cultural celebrations with BHS world language students.
The K-Lab is just one example of Barrington 220’s College and Career Pathway Endorsements in action. The district is continuing to expand authentic learning opportunities and plans to build a new Career Pathways addition at BHS to provide a dedicated space where students can work with large-scale equipment such as 3D printers or flight simulators.
