Evanston’s Job Shadow Program Doubles

The second year of the Evanston Township High School (ETHS) Spring Break Job Shadow Program is in full swing. This program offers ETHS sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to do a 20-hour job shadow experience during spring break. Students receive a $300 stipend for the successful completion of their experience. This year, 56 students are participating, with 20 employers hosting students. These numbers represent a doubling of the participation from last year for both students and employers. The employers cover all seven of the main career pathways, with healthcare and manufacturing being the pathways that have garnered the greatest student interest. The student “payday” event will be held on April 17, where students receive their stipend check, reflect on their experiences, and write thank-you notes to their employer hosts. Members of ETHS administration, employers, and other local dignitaries will be attending.

Applications for the iKit Summer Internship Program for graduating ETHS seniors are being accepted with the goal of placing 40 students into local employment opportunities. This 10-week, paid internship opportunity can lead to full-time employment with local host employers.
