The GP CareerSpark Expo, held on October 1–2, 2024, at the Peoria Civic Center, generated more excitement than ever before. With approximately 4,000 students from 72 schools across 32 cities and 11 counties, the event showcased 100+ careers and was supported by 600+ volunteers. Schools utilized Junior Achievement’s JA Inspire® curriculum to prepare students, equipping them with career interest inventories and individualized action plans. At the expo, students engaged in interactive simulations and demonstrations, such as mock medical procedures and manufacturing processes, which educated and excited them about their future career possibilities in local in-demand careers.
Greater Peoria Economic Development Council and Junior Achievement of Central Illinois have partnered in organizing CareerSpark exploration experiences since 2017, reaching more than 30,000 students cumulatively. Overall, the GP CareerSpark Expo was a resounding success, providing a crucial touchpoint for eighth-grade students before they select their high school courses. It marked an important step in developing a skilled and resilient talent pipeline for the Greater Peoria region, truly inspiring minds and shaping futures.
