Evanston Township High School is empowering students and their families to make informed decisions about post-high school options with the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP), their tool for student post-high school success. Through the ICAP, students explore their interests and values, learn about diverse career paths, develop essential skills, and make informed decisions about their post-high school plans.
The ICAP process provides opportunities for every student, grades 9–12, to connect high school experiences and learning to develop a broader awareness of self and the breadth of opportunities available to them after high school.
Because of this work, more than 90% of students across the district have documented their career interests, allowing the team to leverage this data to provide the academic and experiential opportunities that students want.
Additionally, ETHS has achieved 100% of 12th-grade participation for “set postsecondary goal.” This achievement allows them to review the Class of 2025 goals and follow up with students to ensure their plans are viable before graduation. Their longitudinal plan is to assign this activity in the 9th grade and do regular check-ins with students between grades 9 and 11 to review their documented goals and assess their progress toward success, further personalizing their plan.
Taking a student-centered approach to post-high school planning while providing data-driven insights to the staff allows the district to support students more effectively.
