Increasing Opportunities for Underrepresented Students: Lessons Learned in Advising

How can we recruit underrepresented students into pathways leading to high-quality careers? What supports do these students need to feel welcome and be successful in the classroom and the workplace?

The Success Network, in partnership with Education Systems Center at NIU, hosted a free webinar on October 31, 2023, to hear from three communities using innovative approaches for advising students, especially those from underrepresented groups, as they pursue career pathways.

Presenters:

  • Jessica Hayes, Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Rockford Public Schools
  • Tina Lamb, Ed.D. College & Career Academy Coach, Jefferson High School
  • Jon T. Pieper, Career and Technical Educator, Elk Grove High School
  • Katie Shevokas, School Counselor, La Moille High School
