Illinois Valley Community College hosted the Discover Manufacturing Career Expo in partnership with the North Central Regional Betterment Coalition, Starved Rock Associates Vocational & Technical Education, and several local sponsors and supporters. The Discover Manufacturing Career Expo invites high school students to explore the endless possibilities in manufacturing. Approximately 200 students from local high schools attended the event on Tuesday, October 25, at Illinois Valley Community College.
Students began the day by visiting a local manufacturer for a guided tour and presentations from different business functions. This year’s lineup included visits to Black Brothers Co.; Canam Steel Corporation; Carus LLC, Epsilyte, HCC, Inc.; Machinery Maintenance, Inc.; On Site Repair Services, Inc.; Valley Fabrication, Inc.; SABIC; and Vactor Manufacturing. Eakas and Starved Rock Wood Products also supported the event.
Following the guided tours, students arrived at IVCC for lunch and a keynote address by Peru native, IVCC graduate, and Oertel Metal Vice President of Strategic Development Brian Krzyaniak. The afternoon included break-out sessions, led by approximately 20 IVCC faculty, staff, and company representatives, focused on different career tracks, including technology, business, manufacturing, and maintenance.
