The new Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) Greenhouse is operational and will be used as a learning lab in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension to provide education, coordination, and technical assistance. This semester, the Intro to Horticulture and Precision Agriculture classes are building equipment and learning to grow plants in greenhouse conditions. Students are learning how to grow container and hydroponic plants in a controlled environment and how to set up and manage a greenhouse used for the production of multiple plants/crops through a hands-on, team-based approach. The greenhouse will also be used in community partnerships to help Sauk Valley organizations have a place to grow or conduct research.
