District 227 Students “Test Drive Their Future” with Illinois Tollway

Students, counselors, and teachers from Rich Township High School District 227 had an incredible opportunity to explore career pathways firsthand at the Illinois Tollway Authority’s “Test Drive Your Future” Career Exploration Event on September 30. The event brought together schools from across the region to engage with professionals representing a variety of fields — from engineering and construction to technology, finance, and public service. District 227 students eagerly participated in interactive exhibits, learned about high-demand careers, and gained real-world insight into the skills and education needed to succeed in these industries.

Teachers and counselors from the district were equally inspired, noting how the experience connected directly to the goals of the Regional CTE Network — exposing students to diverse, high-skill, high-wage career opportunities while strengthening partnerships between education and industry.

“Our students were so excited to see how what they’re learning in class translates to real careers,” shared the Technology & Engineering academy counselor, Ms. Debra Wright. “Events like this help them imagine a future that feels within reach.”
