Several years after launching Transitional English at Freeport High School, Highland Community College (HCC) is once again working to bring this valuable course to more high school students. Rae Schupbach-Roe (Dean of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences) and Andrew Martin (Career Pathways Navigator, former Transitional English teacher) co-hosted an introductory webinar for regional high school administrators, faculty, and counselors in mid-September. Eight school districts attended an information session and Q&A about major course objectives, policies, and timelines. A subsequent October meeting is planned. HCC is excited to continue working with interested districts ahead of the March 1 deadline for the Statewide Portability Panel as the region expands college access initiatives to as many students as possible. Special thanks to Anji Garza and the TELA teachers of ROE 47 for their guidance.
