Vandalia ONE

Leadership Community

This collaborative effort supports the students of Vandalia CUSD #203 and the Okaw Area Vocational Center in the greater Fayette County area, with the goal of expanding to other districts in the county.

ONE stands for Own it, Name it, Embrace it. Our goal is to provide 16 pathways from 8th grade to certifications, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees based on regional needs, interest from partners, and a commitment from the business and industry sectors.

2-Year Goals

  • Increase the high school graduation rate to 95% or higher.
  • Implement the CREW (civility, respect, and engagement at the workplace and school), a new mentoring initiative with a mission to strengthen the relationship between community leaders and students. The initiative provides mentor support to students and addresses the social-emotional learning (SEL) needs, which the pandemic exacerbated.
  • Support the Vandalia One mission and bring awareness to the community through the new quarterly Vandalia One magazine. Topics will showcase the collaboration between the community and the school.
  • Increase the cooperation of community members willing to share their expertise, community committees, mentorship, and athletic support.
  • Strengthen awareness of the OKAW Area Vocational Center and communicate the vision that all students can be college and career ready, regardless of their postsecondary plans.
  • Continue to bring mental health intervention into the classrooms with the assistance of the new mental health interventionist and communicate the identified SEL needs with Vandalia One partners.
