Vienna Students Receive Golden Apple Scholarships

Two Vienna High School students, Gracyn Horn and Kylie Vaughn, have been named recipients of the prestigious Golden Apple Scholarship. Gracyn is a current member of the Success Network’s Student Advisory Council.

The award, which provides financial support, mentorship, and hands-on experience, recognizes future educators committed to teaching excellence and service. With the addition of Horn and Vaughn, Vienna High School now claims six total Golden Apple Scholars.

Both students plan to pursue degrees in Elementary Education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Their selection followed a competitive process that highlighted their passion for teaching and dedication to making a positive impact on future generations.

Superintendent Dr. Joshua Stafford emphasized that the honor reflects the students’ commitment to their career path. “Being selected as a Golden Apple Scholar is a reflection of the intentional work Gracyn and Kylie have put into understanding what it truly means to teach and serve others,” Dr. Stafford said. “They have already shown the empathy, work ethic, and leadership we hope to see in future educators.”

Leslie Bradley, Director of Student Career Services and Education Instructor, noted the students’ extensive preparation. “Both of these students have taken every step available to them from their freshman year through senior year to become prepared to enter a teacher education program,” Bradley stated, citing their involvement in the 4H Teen Teacher program, the Southern Illinois Future Teachers Coalition, and the Vienna Future Educators Club. “Their contributions speak to their dedication toward their future careers.”

The scholarship secures a path for both students to begin their careers with a full support system as they enter the vital field of education.
